Hidden Treasures

I refuse to count the works in progress for fear the enormity would discourage production!
There is proof of accomplishment the stacks of quilt blocks are growing, thread snippets litter the floor and these little darlings are multiplying like wildfire!

You can rest assured these scraps are being rescued from the 'trash' and tucked safely away for a rainy day!

I hope that you are blessed with a delightful Wednesday. Happy Stitching!!

with LOVE as always,

Beulah

Without any further delay...

Many have asked about the mini Dresden and how to create the Brooch.

WARNING! Making mini Dresdens Can be Addictive and Habit Forming!!

There truthfully is NO Difference in the construction methods....the difference comes from the size of your template.
The "Secret" is out!

Mini Dresden Template

Materials needed:
a small piece of fusible web
1 self-adhesive pin back
1 small decorative button
embroidery floss
fabrics

To create your template:
My template above is created from a piece of poster board, cracker boxes or chip board work nicely if you don't have any poster board.
The TOP edge is 1 1/2 inches wide.
The BOTTOM edge is 3/4 of an inch wide.

And the HEIGHT is 1 7/8 inches.

To create your own brooch, proceed in the method you like best for joining the blades. Press seams.
Add front center and any decorative stitches. Flip over and cover the back and add pin. Last add your decorative button to the front.

Tada! Easy fun addition to your wardrobe!!

with LOVE as always,
Beulah

Dare to Dresden Blog Hop

Oh my!
What is it about a DARE that rallies the troops?
Instigates activity defying the status quo?
When I accepted 'the dare' to Dresden, little did I know what I was getting into!
Having never in my life created a Dresden block, I had no clue that such a simple innocent quilt block could cause such an explosion of creativity!

First I created a mug rug.

The Dresden is less than 4 inches across.

I used Cotton Embroidery Floss from Westminster Fibers, Inc. in South Carolina to applique and quilt my mug rug.
Oh my goodness!
It was the first time I have worked with their threads...I think I am in LOVE...no knots, beautiful colors, no fraying, the thread glided through the fabric with ease.

Ideas of various ways to create Dresdens  started multiplying!

I quickly realized there wasn't enough time to create a finished product to go with every method I was coming up with...so...The next best thing, I decided to create a "Group Project" a Dresden Friendship Sampler King-Sized Quilt!
[I am making the quilt blocks 16 inches square.]

Here are some of the blocks created so far...the remainder of the blocks...will be coming from ideas birthed from viewing the other Dresdens in this Blog Hop!

I finished both 'ends' to create points and a starry center.

Traditional appliqued center.

Scallop bladed Dresden.

Scallop blade Dresden variation.

Combination scallop and pointed blades.

Playing with size.

There are so many creative quilters with delightful ideas freely sharing their creations...if yesterday and today are any indication...we are in for a real treat throughout the remainder of the Dare to Dresden Hop!

Here are today's participants!

Pondering this morning

Obviously I'm new to blogging as I just started my blog in December.
It's not that I have been ignoring your questions, or comments...something odd is going on in 'blog~land'.

I have a question.

Why do comments to posts vanish?

As in totally gone.
MIA.
No where to be found.
There are close to 90 comments MISSING!!

There are no notations such as "comment removed by author" and I haven't deleted any comments.

And while I am asking questions...some, actually a lot...of the blogs I am or should I say was following have vanished too!

Is this 'normal' and something I should expect from time to time?

In the Spotlight

Once in a while I come across products that fuel the flames of creativity from spark to roaring wild fire.
Since the release Windham Fabrics new fabric line "I like You" by Amy Sedaris, my mind has been twirling with countless possibilities present in these fabrics.
You can imagine my delight when two charm packs arrived in the mail!

I'd love to say I went right to work cutting and sewing the afternoon away. First,I had to play with it, stroke it [I know I can't be the only one that fondles fabric... :){it feels amazing by the way}], sort it, and stash a few pieces for a long-term project. The colors run true blending nicely  among the collection.

The hardest part was deciding which idea to create. Having recently completed projects for several Blog Hops, I chose to work with those themes...and...using my time wisely,I was able to complete projects to add to the blog hops!

The first creation was a Dresden Brooch utilizing many of the fabrics. The brooch is just under 4 inches. Even working on such a small scale these fabrics pack a designers dream punch! The brooch will be 'seen again' in the Dare to Dresden Blog Hop on January 25, 2013.

Instantly upon seeing the fabric 'in person' all I could think about were children's Valentines....with the Hugs & Kisses Blog Hop rapidly approaching [taking place the week of Valentine's Day] what else could I do?
Valentine's Mug Rugs were born!

The little scotties will be popping up again during the Hugs & Kisses Blog Hop along with other projects in my post for the hop.

Yes, you can be certain more fabric from the collection,"I Like You" by Amy Sedaris will soon be on the cutting table!

Windham Fabrics has once again created a Fun Whimsical Delightful line of OUTSTANDING Fabric!

ps* I wonder what Amy is working on now? Can't wait to see her next fabric line!!!
